The Dry, Achy Hand Solution!

Recently, I have gone from a spa setting where everyone was shocked by how soft my hands were, to an office environment where I am typing a LOT and getting extreme hand cramps as well as sandpaper textured hands from all of the paperwork! This process has helped with both the dryness and achiness!

I start the process out with 3 initial steps:

1. Exfoliation

2. Cuticle conditioning

3. Moisturizing

1. For the exfoliation, my preference is to use a glycolic acid based scrub for the anti-aging properties it provides, but any scrub will work. This takes off any dead skin and prepares your hands to receive moisture!

2. This step is optional, but my cuticles are always ragged so I use a cuticle oil on them.

3. I then use a good hand cream- Estée Lauder and Shiseido make 2 of my favorites!

The next part is what really seals everything in and helps with that achiness however:

Paraffin wax! This stuff is amazing! You may be familiar with it as an add-on at nail salons. I have an at home version that I use 2-3 times per week.

Once I’ve completed the first 3 steps, I dip each hand in 3 times and leave it on for about 10 minutes. The wax really helps to deal in the moisture from the cuticle oil and moisturizer. The heat helps with those little aches and pains, and just feels overall amazing!

This has helped me successfully keep dry skin and achiness to a minimum! What are your tips and tricks?

It’s a Rocksbox Monday: February Edition!

I’ve had subscriptions to many different monthly boxes. Gradually, one by one they started getting cancelled as I grew bored with each. One that has stood the test of time and kept my attention however, has been Rocksbox!

Rocksbox is similar to many of the subscription type boxes. You initially take a style quiz and answer questions about your jewelry style as well as preferences as to what types of jewelry you will receive.

For $19 a month, you will be sent 3 pieces of jewelry. If you decide to keep any of those 3 pieces, $10 of that is given to you as credit towards purchasing your pieces.

You can also go through their inventory and “wish” for certain items. I currently have about 150 wishes, mostly Kendra Scott lol! That was one of the main reasons that I joined- I am a HUGE Kendra Scott fan and they have a great selectio. If you decide to keep it, it’s also 15% off of retail. Kate Spade is another recently added brand that I love!

For this month, I requested a Rayne necklace from Kendra Scott and they sent me the rose quartz color.

One of the things I love about Kendra pieces is the varied veining in different pieces. Im not 100% sure if I will be keeping this piece yet as it’s not a color I typically wear, but it’s a gorgeous piece nonetheless!

My other request this month was for a statement necklace, and they sent me this pearl beauty from Perry Street. You can see this one styled in my flannel and tulle post. This will be a keeper for sure!

The last item in my box was this Loren Hope bracelet. I have been waiting months to get one of these (there are quite a few color options), so this was easily what I was most excited about!

This is easily one of my favorite bracelets! It is the perfect layering bracelet and I will be keeping this one for sure!!!

What are your favorite subscriptions???

Flannel and Tulle: Because Yes- you can Fancy up Anything!

This week was the first certifiably cold day of the winter. (Insert sadness here 😭) This sad event made for the perfect day to bust my one flannel shirt out!

Now I am super picky and couldn’t settle on just any flannel shirt- it had to have that little extra! After months of looking, I stumbled across this one by Ralph Lauren and it was love at first sight!

It’s the perfect amount of warm and cozy, but has that little bit extra touch of girliness in the crest.

To up the ante a bit more, I added these pearls from Perry Street and a tulle skirt!

What is Micellar water and why do I need it???

Earlier last year, I kept seeing this “Micellar water” stuff popping up everywhere. After wondering what this was and why I should pay money for “water”, I finally gave it a try! 6 months later, I am still using it and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Micellar water is made up of tiny oil molecules called Micelles (hence the name Micellar water!). Micelles are like little super magnets attracted to makeup and dirt. They are so effective that even after using my makeup remover and cleanser, the Micellar water is picking up more!
Micellar water is also incredibly gentle. The Micelles dissolve the makeup and dirt gently, instead of foaming and stripping the skin. As an ex-tanner, I do a LOT to my skin to fend off as much of the damage as possible- having a gentle makeup remover is a must! It is even gentle enough to use on your eye makeup!

My favorite Micellar Water thus far is the Garnier SkinActive one. The way that I have worked it into my routine is to use some on a cotton round after I have cleansed my face. Why after the cleanse one might ask??? This is why:

Especially when you wear long wear makeup, cleanser is not enough to get everything off of your face (and my cleanser is formulated to take makeup off too!). This is what my Micellar water got off my face after a double cleanse!!!

Micellar water is definitely my favorite beauty find for 2016! What’s yours???

5 Nail Polishes that Scream Winter- Even When its 80 Outside!

Coming out of the holiday season, I always feel  comraderie with winter. Throughout the end of the year, we are so focused of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas that once the new year is here it just feels more like winter.

This year, while it feels “winter” in spirit, it’s in the 80’s and hasn’t even given a bit of relief from the heat 😭. And so, regardless of where you are and what the weather is like, here are 5 Polishes that scream winter!

1. KB Shimmer- Snow Way!

No explanation even needed with that name!

2. OPI- DS Titanium

This is a gorgeous asphalt color with lots of iridescent glitter to it!

3. CND Vinylux- Asphalt

Vinylux is one of my favorite polish lines- they are amazingly smooth and long wearing! This color is a perfect slate grey.

4 & 5:  Sally Hansen- Crochet layered over Michael Kors- Curtain Call

Crochet is a fabulously chunky, snowy looking glitter polish. I love it layered over Curtain Call- a bright, beautiful cobalt blue!

I have definitely enjoyed this winter season without winter weather! And these polishes have helped lend a little bit of that winter feeling!

What were your favorite winter Polishes this season?

Lilly and Ralph: A Preppy Match Made in Heaven!!

On the weekends, we play Pokémon Go and oftentimes, this lends itself to expiring and finding hidden gems! This weekend, we found a small, tucked away area called Brasher Park. A slow boat area only, we are going to take Rowan back there for a fun fishing day!

I don’t really often get to wear my scarves which is a shame! It was cool this weekend and I’ve been dying to bust out my Lilly Pulitzer Tusk in Sun for a while- other than Dark and Stormy, I think that is my favorite print!

One of my other favorite things are my Ralph Lauren tees. They are so versatile, I think I own one in every color! They are a perfect pairing with Lilly!

And of course, I had to bust out my pink Michael Kors watch. I am firmly of the opinion that you can never have too much pink!

Christmas Time Exploits featuring Lilly!

One of the things I remember least fondly about living up north is the extreme, bitter cold weather. I was a banker for many years, and still remember like it was yesterday going outside at 5:30 to scrape off my car and shivering all the way to work! I do not miss this a single bit! In fact, I love that here in Florida I can still take my son out to parks during Christmas season without having to worry about bundling or frostbite!

This weekend we visited Largo Central Park. There were Christmas decorations galore, a train track and trail throughout the park and copious amounts of playground equipment. It’s definitely a fun time if you have a little one and I highly recommend it! (It also has copious amounts of Pokestops if you enjoy Pokémon Go!)

This outfit has nothing to do with Christmas. However, it marks a huge milestone for me: It is the first time that I have been able to fit into my girls size XL Lilly Pulitzer leggings that I have been hoarding for what seems like forever! It’s that little validation that all of my hard work over the past 6 months has been worth it and that I am slowly getting there 😂 And when is there a time that is not a good Lilly Pulitzer time??? (The answer is never)
